Description of Sailing Catamaran Calypso:

Calypso is a Lagoon 440, which was praised as “One of the best cruising boats available” 3 years after the launch of the series with already close to 300 units built. Lagoon, now situated in Bordeaux, France inherited the knowledge of JTA, a builder of high tech performance sailing catamarans and trimarans situated in nearby Nantes. One of the best known boats built by JTA was “Pierre 1” which won the Route de Rhum. Later, renamed to “Lacota” this boat continued breaking passage records all over the world. It even made it to be the model for the trimaran in Kevin Costners epic film “Waterworld”. No wonder, that when JTA branched out to build construction cruising catamarans under the name “Lagoon” their models almost became a class on its own in the yacht charter market world wide.

Cockpit, Deck  Saloon and Below Decks

The spacious and uncluttered cockpit flows dynamically into the deck saloon providing an indoor – outdoor living plan perfectly suited for sailing in Thailand. For the occasional tropical shower the cockpit is well protected by the fixed bimini. The cockpit table sits up to 8 for a meal and fits inside the huge U – shaped dinette. Inside the deck saloon, the galley is situated to starboard with a huge working area, double sinks and a 3 burner stove. Forward of the galley is the nav station and to the left of it another huge dinette provides ample space if you like to sit inside.

In each hull there are 2 double cabins. Each has its own head and shower. When you enter the saloon and the hulls you will be surprised by the generous head room which gives this sailing catamaran an airy feeling throughout.

Being already the 3rd generation Lagoons, this sailing catamaran sports the company’s unique fly bridge design. Providing a raised helm position in the centerline with all sheets run to a central area which can easily reached by the helmsman Lagoon managed to improve visibility and convenience for the people operating the vessel. And this is not only the skipper, but very often our guests like to get a hands on experience. 

The sail area is more than sufficient for a sailing catamaran of this size and easily brings Calypso  to speeds of 8 – 10 kn in a good breeze. Moving around is easy with the wide side decks and, like on most cruising catamarans, lounging in the nets between the hulls is a pleasure for itself.
